The Homework Project was begun as an educational outreach to school-age children in poor, rural Romania by Epiphany United Church of Christ in Chicago. The Homework Project offers after-school tutorial assistance, using trained teachers, and also provides the children with a good meal. The program enables students to be prepared for school and as a result, lessens the likelihood they will drop out of the educational system.

At present, The Homework Project is active in two villages on the Western edge of Romania, near the Hungarian border. The centers in Cefa and Berechui reach about 50 children each year. The program operates between September and the end of May. Summer recreational activities are also scheduled.

The program begun by Epiphany has enjoyed a grassroots success, however, there is more to be done. It is hoped that in the coming years, additional centers may be established to provide educational hope for more children.
